Is SOCIAL ACCEPTANCE that much necessary? By Farheen S.

What if I tell you social acceptance is not that much important as much your own acceptance of you?

With this advancement and modernization of the world, the discrimination and acceptance factors are also rising with quite a speed in our societies. If we want to wrap the “acceptance and discrimination” in beautiful words, we can call it a competition because some of us call it a competition truly.  Our society has transformed itself into a sort of race completion. No one wants to lag behind in this contest. It does not matter what we are leaving behind. It does not matter that we are leaving behind our actual goals, our actual desires. It does not matter that we are forfeiting ourselves. It does not matter we are getting conscious of ourselves so much that sometimes we get afraid of what will happen if we cannot get accepted in this society.  Yes, exactly we are covering our faces with a mask.
A mask that is acceptable to others. What about our hearts? Oh, we do not need to take care of our hearts. Our hearts do not need a mask because others cannot see it. We just have to cover ourselves apparently. Our inside does not matter. Take a time and think. Yeah it’s true others cannot see your heart but can you not feel it. Do you not feel a heavyweight in your heart?

We all are looking for our differences in each other but we are not putting efforts in trying to find our similarities. We do not strive to stay connected; we are just striving to get accepted. Are you considering yourself so much small that you are leaving the judgment of you to others? You are not even thinking that these “others” are capable or not to judge you.  I am not saying that to have a desire to get accepted is not important, I agree it is important but not that much that we have to leave our free will, we have to lose ourselves, we have to leave behind our actual personality or we have to divert from our original line.  It is not that much necessary that we give permission to others to get into our space and persuade us into different things that are totally opposite of “being ourselves”.  Everyone is doing something because others are doing it or it’s in a trend. I have even signed up for twitter the first time by thinking that everyone has a twitter account, I should have too.

Chase this race but do not get so much ahead that you cannot get back to yourself. I will give Facebook as an example. When we post something on our wall, we wait for hours to get more likes, comments, and shares. But if we do not get likes to our expectancy, we start to think that there
is something wrong in your post or it is boring. When you see someone with so much happiness in his/her picture, you sometimes start to think that you are the only one having problems in your life. But what we are not paying attention to is that when we post our pictures, we put ourselves best on it.  We wear that sugarcoated beautiful mask.

There is a way in which we can win this competition by being our best. That way is:

“Be a Jug not a glass”

Change yourself. Do not let this social acceptance become your key to comfort. Be careful in your social groups, if someone has this type of acceptance problem; try to share your thoughts with that person so that he/she can share too. Sometimes we ignore this type of situation by thinking that why we interfere in other’s personal matter. Maybe that person is waiting for your one step. We do not have any idea when this discrimination in our society starts to take the form of ignorance.

  5. I had a look at your blog, ahhhhh I'm so much utterly disapointed that i was able to see my own face in your blog, we all just think before doing anything, "Log kya kahenge", I guess it really is the time now to start thinking just with-in ourselves. If we keep doing it the same day then when we will be old, we will say "Yaar log keh lete jo unko kehna tha, apni life apni soch, apni marzi aur apni tassalli se Geo, I really learnt this lesson. Thank you for sharing the link of your so much thoughtful writting. Jazak Allah.

  6. This is so so good!! We truly do need to stop comparing to others and looking for our self worth in others and love ourself for who we are and who we were created to be!

  7. How refreshing! It's so hard to be socially accepted in society nowadays, it's about time we all took a step back and be proud to be ourselves x

  12. I think social acceptance is important to a degree. You do need to be accepted in certain aspects of life in you work or if you want to move in certain social circles. If you want to live off the grid, then social acceptance isn’t needed!

    1. Yeah I totally agree with you, it's important to survive in our society but some people care so much that they forget the original touch of their personality.

  13. I love the way you ended this post. It's important to take that extra step in doing something, be it for yourself or for someone else. More support, understanding, and love needs to be shared in this world!

  14. One thing I love about social media is that we can tailor it for our needs. I try to follow and interact with people who share their whole selves, not just the good. It definitely helps!

  15. It’s important to remember that social media is generally a glimpse into most people’s life, but it isn’t the full picture. Just because everything is perfect online doesn’t mean they don’t have their own issues & probl

  16. I think self acceptance is more important than the social acceptance, but with the growing hype for social media, we have become more conscious of the social acceptance. Your Facebook example has seriously made me think that we all have fallen a prey to this hype. I appreciate you sharing this eye opener post.

  19. To be honest i was never one for caring about social acceptance , simply because i do not want to worry or think about if people like me or not - i know that as humans we are all unique and we all eventually find our tribe

  20. It was a great raed. Self acceptance is really importance to use rather than social acceptance. I don't care how people define me.

  24. Its such a great and inspiring post but the meaning behind it is so strong as well. You are right, we need to see ourselves as a jug and not just a glass!

  25. I think this article adresses a real problem! In fact I think it is super important to create awareness about this problem especially among young people. I am "old" and I have long passed that age of need of social acceptance (that I suffered in my early teens for a brief moment). But I lived in an era where there was no internet so it was completely different.

  26. This was so beautiful to read and very important and true reminder. It's hard to accept individuality this day in age and this is a perfect reminder and eye-opener.
